Objectives of the Programme
a) To influence policy shift towards an education system that is
appropriate to the aspirations of the people of Kenya.
b) To build a strong movement with clear directions and targets
around Education for all.
c) To champion the cause of education from rights based perspectives
to ensure it is accessible to all citizens, with particular regard to
vulnerable and excluded groups.
d) To advocate and lobby the government donors and other key
stakeholders to achieve efficiency and effectiveness of the
education system in Kenya.
e) To campaign for gender parity in all education Programmes, and in
particular ensure that girls and women have equal opportunities to
participate in education.
Description of the Programme
The main aim of the project is to create awareness on the Education for All (EFA) goals
and the Global Campaign on Education (GCE). The outcome is to
create policy reform and a conducive learning environment while
promoting and access and quality education for all.
The mode of conducting the programme is through workshops,
community outreaches, policy advocacy initiatives and inputting into
legislation.

Achievements of the Programme
- Formation of Machakos County Education Network (CEN) in 2011 with support from EYC, World Vision and Plan International.
- In November 8th 2010 YPD attended a National stakeholder baseline validation and feedback forum at KIE. The aim of the forum was share findings of the right to basic education and parental involvement in school governance. The research was conducted by KNAP in three regions namely Coast, North Rift and South Nyanza.
- On June 11th 2010 YPD held a workshop at Machakos to discuss the policy formulation and resources prioritization and allocation.
- On April 29th 2010 YPD attended a workshop held at KIE to launch a National Civil Society Education Fund (NCSEF).
- On March 2010 YPD was elected the focal point for implementing Elimu Yetu Campaigns (EYC) in Lower Eastern region.
- YPD in the year 2009 October Conducted Elimu Yetu Coalition (EYC) Workshop for Lower Eastern Province stakeholders at Machakos town.
- In October 2009 YPD Conducted the National UWEZO Survey at Mwala District supported by Women Education Researchers of Kenya (WERK). The survey was to determine literacy, comprehension and numeracy level in primary school children.
- Conducted mental research and survey in primary and secondary schools in Machakos sub counties and Makueni sub counties in partnership with African Mental Health Foundation (AMHF) in 2013-2014.
- In 2014-2016- conducted several education meetings for stakeholders in Machakos County.
