Objective of the programme

1. To empower our youth to be entrepreneurial
2. To convert, innovate and incubate ideas for business
3. To support the youth with financial resources for IGAs and business development

Description of the programme
Most of the youths graduate with the hope of getting employment with white collar jobs. There is high rate of unemployment in Kenya hence the need for self employment creation. The programme supports the youth to explore self employment and income generating opportunities using the academic knowledge and skills they have. This programme entails training the youth on business plan development, creativity and innovation, procurement, social enterprise, business incubation and marketing.

Activities

1. Entrepreneurship training- This entails identification of income generation activities, opportunities and exploration of their potential of their feasibility.
2. Business Management- This covers business ideas development, business plan and concept development, how to manage a business and make it grow.
3. Financial management- This includes sources of funds, planning, utilization and accounting.
4. Marketing skills- This entails product and service marketing, customer surveys and value chain development.
5. Public relations- This including business branding, communications, image building.
6. Resource mobilization – This includes both financial and non financial assets and capital acquisition, and planning for its investment.
7. Networking and partnerships- This entails business sourcing, collaborations, and joint ventures to achieve success.

Achievements

1. Conducted workshops on the awareness of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) at Machakos district in 2010.
2. Organized a youth meeting on the youth procurement scheme at Machakos district for Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) in 2010.
3. Awareness on public procurement for the vulnerable groups (30%) supported by GIZ through PPOA and opinion Kenya at Machakos and Makueni counties, each 1,000 youth, total 2,000.
4. Partnered with Strathmore University Enterprise Development Centre to organize the Machakos County networking workshop attended by over 200 entrepreneurs.
5. Attended several seminars on entrepreneurship and financing.
