- To inform and advocate for policy and legislation change on sectors relating to youth
Description of the programme
This involves surveys, assessments, lobbying and advocacy strategy for youth progamming, policy and legislation. The rpogrammes aims to cover several sectors including Education, Employment, Land, Environment, Agriculture, ICT, Health, Law, Politics and Social Issues. This programme aims at tackling isssues related to employment, radicalism, digital revolution, cyber crime, sexual orrientation, human trafficking, drug abuse etc.
Activities
- Research Surveys-This will be regional or national surveys involving pressing issues.
- Dissemination Forums-This will be workshops and conferences to share such findings.
- Publications- This will be books for publicizing the reports.
- Advocacy Forums – This will be meetings, workshops and conferences for sharing and arriving at consensus on certain matters affecting the youth.
Achievements
- Conducted research on water harvesting Mechanisms in the ASAL regions with International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in 2015.
- Conducted research on drought resistant crops with World Agro-Forestry Centre (ICRAF) in 2014.
- Conducted research on delivery on rights based approach on delivery of health services in Makueni County with support of Transparency International (TI) in 2014.
- Conducted mental research and survey in primary and secondary schools in Machakos sub counties and Makueni sub counties in partnership with African Mental Health Foundation (AMHF) in 2013-2014.
- Survey on MDGs covering Kiambu County with support of Action Aid Kenya (AAK) in 2007.
- In November 8th 2010 YPD attended a National stakeholder baseline validation and feedback forum at KIE. The aim of the forum was share findings of the right to basic education and parental involvement in school governance. The research was conducted by Kenya National Association of Parents (KENAP) in three regions namely Coast, North Rift and South Nyanza.
- In October 2009 YPD Conducted the National UWEZO Survey at Mwala District supported by Women Education Researchers of Kenya (WERK). The survey was to determine literacy, comprehension and numeracy level in primary school children.
- Conducted survey on environmental issues for WSSD/UNEP with support of Centre for Research on Urban Management and Human Settlements (CREUMHS) in 2003-2004
