YPD Programme

Objectives of the Programme
- To encourage participation of the youth in leadership.
- To conduct capacity building and training (CBT) of the youth.
- To promote Socio economic empowerment of the youth through provision of information and knowledge.
Description of the Programme
This is a programme that deals with all the concerns of the youth and offers them knowledge to gain the ability and authority to make decisions and implement change in their own lives. This is done through channels like workshops and seminars to empower the youth. The project also seeks to give the youth exposure, networking skills and best practices. The main interventions are to provide youth with a foundation necessary to develop sustainable long-term youth projects, encourage development of skills and self-reliance and to increase youth accessibility to information and knowledge.Activities

Talent Development Support
The youth are involved in identifying their talents and gifts and focusing on them to build their future in sports, arts, culture and entertainment.

Achievements of the Programme
- Educated the youth about the National Youth Council (NYC) formation and elections, 4 forums were held reaching to over 1,000 youths and 14 youth leaders were elected in Machakos and Makueni counties.
- Peer Education has been done to over 2,000 youths in Machakos and Makueni Counties.
- Shabaa programme whose aim is to bring together youth and young leaders in promoting value based leadership and peaceful coexistence has been conducted in 10 secondary schools in Machakos County. 2 youth leaders from the county were involved in the programme.
- One career seminar was conducted in 2009 and another one in 2015.
- 8 youth resource centers were established for youth to access information and positive recreation at Machakos and Makueni counties with support from the Global Fund on HIV.
- Organized the international youth day celebrations in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MOYAS).
- Organized a beauty contest during the world environment day on the 5th of June 2012 at Machakos district with support from APHIA Plus Kamili.
- Organized Machakos County Career Day 2015 at Machakos University College (MUC) on 17/11/2015
- Over 50 Secondary Schools, Colleges and Universities were done life skills courses.
- Conducted several youth career seminars including AIC Manza, AIC Maiuni and AIC Mungala, AIC Katoloni Compassion Kenya.
